About Clare

Clare Thackway is an Australian artist based in Paris, known for her intimate portraits and figurative paintings that explore human experience through the body.

Informed by psychology, feminism, and the history of painting, her work weaves themes of memory and connection, often incorporating cloth and pattern. Her distinctive technique, with scratched-back marks and luminous skin tones, reveals depth beneath the surface.

A graduate of the National Art School Sydney, Clare has exhibited internationally and been recognized in major Australian art awards, including the Archibald Prize and the Portia Geach Memorial Award.
